Kerala public service (KPS) commission is the authorized body to conduct examinations for all the vacancies in the government departments. It advertises in its website about the post, where the interested candidates could apply by logging to their registered web accounts. As PSC gets all the applications, it proceeds to scrutinize those to know whether those match the necessary qualification and other paraphernalia for the post. The selected candidates get the letters of intimation from the commission to attend written tests, physical tests, and physical tests. Library Assistant Syllabus
As the government of Kerala is intending to recruit 20 library assistants in the department of public libraries, the examination would get conducted based on a course. The course would have two parts, such as PART-A and PART-B.
Content of PART-A
The part-A is about Library Administration. It contains topics like introductory concept of library administration and Management, different types of libraries, different sections of library, KPL Act and its important features, library finance, and budget, and library records management.
Second part of Part-A
The part-A also has another part, called Reference Section. It concerns the ways and methods to draw reference from various sources about books, manuals and journals. The reference sources are dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks, hand books and manuals, biographies, directories, geographical sources, and bibliographies.
Content of PART-B
The part-B is about library organization. The key subjects in the part-B are the basic concept about library organization, laws about library science, various sections and services, library buildings and furniture, methods of preservation and conversations of books and other concerned reading materials.
Second part of Part-B
The second part of part-B is Library automation. As computerization has taken the lead everywhere, library automation teaches about the part of role of computers in the library.
Third part of Part-B
Third part of the part-B is library classification. The subject is about different types of libraries and their classifications.
Fourth part of Part-B
The last but the most important part of the course is about cataloguing for the library. As catalogues are most important in finding the status of the books in the library, this part teaches about ways to refer catalogues.
